Home Auctions Expand As Demand Continues In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - The city of Detroit's effort to get vacant homes back on the tax roll is being expanded, as an online auction moves into new communities.

Inside a vacant, six bedroom home in the Boston - Edison district, Mayor Mike Duggan expanded on the growing neighborhood initiative that will soon go to seven-day a week auctions reports WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas

Just  after Memorial Day the city will auction "fourteen houses a week, because we feel like there is enough demand there," said Duggan.

All five home in the first auction sold commanding at least $30,000 per home.

"What last week proved is there is enormous demand to move into good quality houses in our neighborhoods," said Duggan.

City Council President Brenda Jones,"if they know like I know, they will bring the person who is gonna do their repairs with them to look through the homes and can give them an estimate of want it could possibly cost."

There will be open houses in both the Osborne and East Village communities May 17-18.
