Hit-And-Run Driver Suspected In Homeless Man's Death Has 4 Prior Drunk Driving Convictions

PONTIAC (WWJ) - The driver suspected in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Pontiac nearly two weeks ago had four prior drunk driving convictions and a suspended license before his arrest.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office says 55-year-old Robert Foster had an outstanding warrant for another drunk driving charge when they caught up with him two days after he allegedly left the the scene of a crash that killed Timothy Presnell on Oct. 21.

According to police, the 53-year-old Presnell was attempting to cross Telegraph Road near Menominee Street when he was fatally struck. A witness who spotted Foster's SUV leaving the scene helped crack the case, police said.

"Thanks to a very aware citizen that sent in a tip leading to the arrest of Robert Foster, the family of Timothy Pressnell can have some closure during this difficult time," Sheriff Mike Bouchard said in a statement. "This individual clearly has no respect for life as his record of unsafe and unlawful driving has dictated."

Foster was arraigned on charges of leaving the scene of an accident causing death, and driving while license suspended. Bond was set at $25,000 cash/no 10 percent, with the condition that he must wear an alcohol tether if bond is posted.

Foster remains in the Oakland County Jail. His next court date will be at 50th District Court, but a date has yet to be scheduled.
