Historical Society Marks Detroit's 313th Birthday

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Historical Society is celebrating Detroit's 313th birthday with a week of activities.

The events taking place at the Detroit Historical Museum are part of "313th of the 313," a reference to the city's 313 area code.

Events start Monday, with extended hours, a daily film screening and family-friendly hands-on activities. Highlights include Arsenal of Democracy Day, where visitors can make a World War II propaganda poster, and America's Motor City Day, including a classic car show.

Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac founded Detroit and the city's official birthday is July 24, 1701. Special events are planned on Thursday to mark the day. On Friday, Gallery of Innovation Day wraps up the week with the chance to test innovative problem solving skills.
