Hip Hop Artists Make Christmas Sweeter For 2 Detroit Families

DETROIT (WWJ) - They're calling it a Hip Hop Christmas in Detroit as a pair of well known local rap artists get together to help bring cheer to families.

"We're calling it the Hip Hop Christmas because we're hip hop artists and we're giving back," says T-3 of Slum Village.

He and Swifty McVay of D-12 have collaborated to host their first hip hop Christmas.

"We're taking them Christmas shopping and we are also taking them to grocery shop and we're also taking them to Toys R Us for kids. So, it's our way to give back. We're going to do this annually so this time we're going to have two families and next time we're going to have more," he says.

Both families, with children, from Detroit will get $100 for a shopping spree at Toys R Us, and $100 more to go grocery shopping.

T3 is the surviving member of Slum Village, the rap trio that came out of Conant Gardens on Detroit's east side in the early 90's that included two of his childhood friends Baatin and producer J-Dilla.
