Hillary Clinton Heading To Metro Detroit For $2,700-A-Head Fundraiser

GROSSE POINTE (WWJ/AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has scheduled a $2,700-a-head fundraiser July 21 in suburban Detroit.

The Detroit News says it obtained a copy of the invitation to "A Conversation with Hillary Clinton." It's being held at the Grosse Pointe home of David Katz and Jill Alper. Alper is described online as a "nationally recognized electoral and media strategist" for the Dewey Square Group, and as a strategist for former Gov. Jennifer Granholm and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.

The newspaper says attending the event costs $2,700. People who raise at least $27,000 will be recognized as event co-hosts and those who raise at least $50,000 will be recognized as hosts. Co-hosts and hosts will be invited to a reception with Clinton and membership in her Hillstarters program.

The Hillstarters program aims to raise $100 million for Clinton before the primary.

One of the cornerstones of Clinton's platform involve increasing economic opportunity for people on the lower rungs of the country's financial ladder.

The former U.S. senator from New York and former U.S. secretary of state last visited Michigan on Oct. 16, when she addressed a Democratic rally for U.S. Senate candidate Gary Peters and gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer in Auburn Hills.
