High School Heart Transplant Recipient Making Organ Donation A Call To Action

BEVERLY HILLS (CBS Detroit) - He recently received a heart transplant and the video of him waking up after surgery went viral.

Trevor Sullivan is on a mission. Three months after getting a heart transplant, the 15-year old is meeting with students at his old stomping grounds, Berkshire Middle School in Beverly Hills.

"I'm basically here to tell my story ... and then keeping your heart healthy and then organ donation," Sullivan told WWJ health reporter Dr. Deanna Lites.

It's been a long journey for Trevor who developed cardiomyopathy, a life-threatening condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormal.

"A year ago, just about at this time, I didn't even know how much longer he might possibly be with us - if he didn't end up getting a transplant," said his mom, Kimberly Sullivan.

His mother, Kimberly, said Trevor can't wait to get back to high school and continue spreading the word about organ donation.

"I'm actually living life now, before I was just kind of put on hold - it's good," Trevor said.
