High School Football Coach Quits After Accusations He Sent Porn To Kids

BEAL CITY, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - A successful high school football coach in mid-Michigan has resigned after officials accused him of sending pornography to students.

Beal City Superintendent William Chilman said coach Lou Rau was given the opportunity to meet with school officials earlier this month about the allegations, but instead resigned via text message.

Chilman said the school launched an investigation after receiving complaints from parents on Jan. 5. After digging around, Chilman said they discovered that Rau had "engaged in unprofessional conduct" that included "inappropriate communication with student-athletes, including, but not limited to, sending pornographic material to minors."

The details of Rau's resignation were revealed in a Freedom of Information Act request filed by The Morning Sun in Mount Pleasant.

Rau is a Beal City graduate who had coached the Aggies since 2000. He won a state championship in 2009, and his teams regularly appeared in championship games or the semifinals.

The Isabella County Sheriff's Department has launched its own investigation into the allegations.
