Heritage Park In Farmington Hills Evacuated After Shooting

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ) - A popular Farmington Hills recreation area was closed by police, Friday afternoon, following a fatal shooting.

At 11 a.m., Farmington Hills police officers responded to a report from a concerned passerby about a despondent man in a vehicle at Heritage Park on Farmington Rd.

As a precautionary measure, all campers and visitors were temporarily evacuated to the nearby Costick Center.

Police later said that investigators believe the man had shot and killed himself.

Officials say the park was packed at the time of the incident, but the man never threatened anyone else. There's no danger to people in the area, police said, but the park will remain closed for the duration of the investigation.

The man's name was not released.
