Henry Ford Museum Opening Glass Gallery With 100 Artworks

DEARBORN (WWJ/AP) - Southeastern Michigan's Henry Ford Museum is preparing to open a glass gallery.

The Dearborn-based museum debuts the Davidson-Gerson Modern Glass Gallery on Friday. Museum officials say the exhibit spans the Studio Glass movement's founding in 1962 to the present.

The gallery will feature roughly 100 works of art selected from a recently acquired collection. Visitors also can learn about the glassmaking process through a video "spin browser."

"Guests will not only be wowed by the beauty on display, but will leave inspired by the stories of the artists behind the movement," Patricia Mooradian, president of The Henry Ford, said in a statement.

Featured artists include Harvey Littleton, who led the experimental 1962 workshops, and Paul Stankard, the father of modern paperweights.

The gallery has received a grant from the William Davidson Foundation.
