Help Sought To Find Mental Patient Who Fled Detroit Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are asking for help in locating a mentally ill woman who ran from Sinai Grace Hospital Thursday morning wearing only a yellow hospital gown and no shoes.

Detroit Police Sgt. Erin Stephens said 46-year-old Alicia Carson has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

"Her son felt that she needed to be treated, and that's why he took her to the hospital; and she fled from the hospital," Stephens told WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil.

Stephens believes the woman may still be in the area of West Outer Drive and Schaefer. She said police are more concerned that the woman may be in danger than they are that she could be a danger to anyone else.

Carson is described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a medium complexion and short, dark hair. Police did not have a photo of her to release to the media.

Anyone with information about Carson's whereabouts is asked to call Detroit police.
