Hearing Delayed While Man Continues To Recover From Detroit Dog Pack Attack

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A key court hearing has been postponed after a man who lost portions of his limbs in a Detroit dog pack attack couldn't make it because of his condition.

Steve Constantine, 51, is being transferred this week to his sister's home from a rehabilitation center.

When officers came upon the scene in the 4500 block of Pennsylvania, police said, Constantine was lying in a yard, naked, being attacked by 12 pit bulls. Police said he lost most of his left arm, his left leg below the knee and his left ear during the mauling.

A judge must decide whether there's enough evidence to send 62-year-old Derrick Felton to trial. He's charged with harboring a dangerous animal causing serious injury.

Neighbors had complained to police multiple times about Felton's  dogs running loose — and it appears, prior to this incident — they'd escaped the home through a side door. Police killed one dog at the scene and rounded up at least 11 others.

Judge Ron Giles refused to dismiss the case and set another hearing for April 8. Other witnesses also had conflicts Monday.
