Here's a snippet of a cover I'm working on of my dear friend Ryan Dillaha's song, Michigan Weather. (Go stream his new record, Closer To Better). It's been snowing this past week and we've all been feeling trapped, and this song encapsulates all those emotions. I'll be playing this song and a few other soothing tunes this Friday for Lullabies From Detroit at 10pm! Tune into the Facebook Live on their page, and have this clip to tide you over until then ????

Day 18 of #30SongsIn30Days a project to write a new song each day for 30 days. Sailing Days were a huge part of our family. #HeardInDetroit On lower Lake Huron off the Sarnia shore Powered by wind, no motor on board I sailed alone when I was just fourteen A simple sloop with a jib and a main All the knots were tied, cleated and hitched The bowline, the square..even the slip My sister taught me how to see the wind Feel the pull of tiller and the mainsail trimmed CHORUS: Sailing days Skipping over the waves The western breeze Feeling so free Starboard or port Plotting my own course I'm going that way. On sailing this day This was my escape. my solitude Sun in the sky clear water in view Beer in a bucket from my dad's stash Hand over the side just to feel the splash Out here speed was measured by knots Time had no conscience I carried no watch No maps or charts to say way to turn Only bathroom on board was right off of the stern CHORUS: I may have had a little too much to drink The next part is kind of foggy I think A hundred foot freighter heaved it's silent wake Blowing it's horns like a small earthquake I had better get the hell out of the way So I could live to sail again another day Helms alee we're gonna jibe ho All hands on deck get ready to go Sailing days I don't know what to say Almost capsized A boat ten times the size But I survived And to my dad I did lie That's just what you say. On sailing this day
