Harvard Study: Coffee Has More Health Benefits Than You May Have Thought

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Reaching for an extra cup of joe may do more than get you through the day -- it may keep you healthy.

People who drink moderate amounts of coffee every day -- fewer than five cups -- experience a lower risk of death from cardiovascular disease, neurological diseases, Type-2 diabetes and suicide according to a study from Harvard University.

According to the study, it didn't matter if it was caffeinated or decaf which suggests it's not the caffeine providing the health benefits but possibly some naturally occurring chemical compounds in the coffee beans.

While more research is planned, these findings are based on a large study involving more than 200,000 men and women.
