Harrison Township Man Charged After Girlfriend Found Dead In Car

HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - A 34-year-old Harrison Township man suspected in his girlfriend's death is jailed on a related charge.

Eric Schultz was arraigned Monday on one count of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder after the body of 48-year-old Chantal Rea was found in the backseat of her car in front of a home on Cloverleaf Street last Friday.

Macomb County Sheriff's investigators believe the St. Clair Shores woman was seriously injured when she fled Schultz's home after a domestic dispute.

The charge Schultz currently faces is a 10-year felony.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham told reporters that Rea's death is being investigated as homicide but did not talk about a possible cause of death.

Investigators are waiting final autopsy reports; and once those are completed, according to the sheriff's office, charges against Schultz may be "amended and elevated."

Bond was set at $750,000 cash/surety in 41-B District Court.  Schultz remained lodged at the Macomb County Jail.
