Harper Woods public safety crews making repairs to broken water main

Water service could be disrupted for a large area of Harper Woods, Michigan, Friday because of repairs to a water main break.

The Harper Woods Department of Public Safety said repairs would begin in the morning at a water main break near 21401 Kingsville Street at Chester.

"Repairs may disrupt water service for multiple blocks in each direction," the notice said.

Residents are asked to move their vehicles away from that area and use caution when driving near barricades.

Repairs could take about three to five hours.

Once water use is restored, residents should flush their water lines until water runs clear before using the water for household needs.

There have been numerous water main breaks in Wayne County and elsewhere in Southeast Michigan during the past two months, triggered or fed in many cases by the freeze-thaw weather conditions. The most serious of those water main breaks occurred about three weeks ago in Southwest Detroit, where over 100 homes had flood damage as a result.
