Hardee's 'Most American Thickburger' Packs Beef, Hot Dog, Chips On One Bun

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT/AP) -  Open wide, America, for a complete summer barbecue on a bun.

Carl's Jr. and Hardee's have announced their upcoming "Most American Thickburger" which will feature a beef patty, topped with a split hot dog, resting atop of crunchy layer of kettle cooked Lay's potato chips.

Slapped on top of that will be ketchup, mustard, tomato, red onion, pickles and American cheese.

Think that kind of meat on meat merger is just too much? A big wig at Carl's Jr./Hardee's disagrees.

"The hot dog is like a smoked meat product, so it's not unlike bacon," said Brad Haley, chief marketing officer of CKE Restaurants, which owns the sibling chains. "We've had this idea, believe it or not, for a long time."

The monstrosity — which will cost $5.79 on its own, or $8.29 with fries (if the chips don't fulfill your potato fix) and a pop — provides 1,030 calories and 64 grams of fat (no immediate word on the sodium content).

It'll be available beginning on May 20, at both Carl's Jr. and Hardee's restaurants (the later of which does have a couple of metro Detroit locations).

In the meantime, some on social media have been suggesting what they believe should be on a "Most American" burger.

Does any of this sound appetizing to you? What would you put on a "Most American" burger? Comment below.
