Gymnastics Instructor Arraigned In Sex Case Involving 14-Year-Old Female Student

EAST LANSING (AP) — A former Lansing-area gymnastics instructor has been arraigned on criminal sexual conduct charges in connection with a relationship involving a 14-year-old female student.

East Lansing officials say on the city's website that bond was denied Monday in 54B District Court for 26-year-old Mikael Frutin.

Frutin was arrested Sept. 4 in Los Angeles by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Police started investigating the case in 2014 and say none of the alleged crimes happened at the gymnastics center in Delhi Township where Frutin worked.

Frutin faces an Oct. 16 preliminary examination.

The Lansing State Journal reports that defense attorney Nick Leydorf declined to comment after Monday's arraignment.
