Mustang Driver Shot By Police After Chase Through Macomb County

MACOMB COUNTY (WWJ) - The suspect in a slow speed chase through Fraser and Clinton Township was shot at least twice by police Wednesday morning.

WWJ's Ron Dewey says a late-model Mustang was involved in the pursuit that began at around 4 a.m. after the 26-year-old driver allegedly refused to stop when police tried to pull him over.

According to police, a Fraser officer shot the man as he was boxed in and was ramming patrol cars when the chase ended at 15 Mile and Kelly roads.

Three bullet holes are visible in the windshield of the Mustang, Dewey reported from the scene. People in the area said they heard gunshots.

The suspect was struck in the head and shoulder, according to Clinton Township police, and was in surgery at a local hospital later in the day.

Police said three Fraser officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues. Dash camera video will be reviewed.

The westbound lanes of 15 Mile were shut down at the scene, leading to traffic congestion in the area, but have since reopened.

No names have been released.
