Gunman In Critical Condition After Being Shot By Detroit Police

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A man is in critical condition after being shot by police officers on Detroit's west side Friday night.

Sergeant Cassandra Lewis told WWJ Newsradio 950 that officers shot the man -- who is believed to be in his 50s -- five times after he threatened them with a gun near the area of Artesian St. and Joy.

The incident started around 9:50 p.m. when police responded to reports of shots fired. When officers arrived, the man was waiving the gun around.

They told him several times to drop the weapon and when he refused, they fired.

The man is listed in critical condition.
