2 Injured By Gunfire After Answering Knock At Door In Inkster; Gunman Remains At Large

INKSTER (WWJ) - Authorities say a gunman remains at large after ambushing a group of people at an apartment complex in Inkster and wounding two men.

The shooting happened sometime between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Cherry Hill Club Apartments, near Cherry Hill and Henry Ruff roads.

Michigan State Police say at least six people were in the apartment, including a child between 1- to 2-years-old, when there was a knock at the door. As someone was answering the door, bullets started flying, according to police.

Two men received gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital. One received treatment for non-life threatening injuries, while the other remains hospitalized. Police say both men are from out-of-town and were visiting friend at the time.

The gunman fled the scene after the shooting and is still on the run.

A motive for the shooting remains unclear. Police say witnesses have offered conflicting statements on circumstances surrounding the incident, which remains under investigation.
