Guilty Plea For Man Accused In EMU Shooting

WASHTENAW COUNTY (WWJ) -- A Detroit man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Eastern Michigan University football player Demarius Reed.

Kristopher Pratt, 20, entered the plea in Washtenaw County Trial Court on Friday. He agreed to testify against co-defendant Ed Thomas, whose trial begins Monday.

In exchange for his cooperation, a plea deal calls for an 18-30 year prison term for Pratt, who said he shot the 20-year-old Reed, a wide receiver from Chicago, twice in the side during a robbery attempt at an off-campus apartment in October, 2013.

Both men face open murder and armed robbery charges. An open murder charge means the jury can choose to convict them of either first or second-degree murder.

Lawyers for Pratt and Thomas have said there isn't enough evidence that their clients committed the crimes.
