18 Detroit Cops Get Stuck In Downtown Hotel Elevator

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are investigating after more than a dozen police officers got stuck in a hotel elevator Tuesday afternoon.

Detroit Police Officer Dan Donakowski said the officers were at the Atheneum Suite Hotel on Brush Street downtown for a promotional examination when the incident occurred.

Donakowski told WWJ's Sandra McNeill 18 uniformed officers were on the elevator for about 30 minutes until firefighters and EMS were able to get them out.

Donakowski said it was not immediately clear what caused the elevator to break down,  but a spokesperson said the problem may have been just too much weight.

No injuries were reported. Donakowski said one officer was having difficulty breathing, but she turned out to be OK.

WWJ has a call out to the hotel for comment.
