1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Detroit Police Chase Crash

DETROIT (WWJ) - A motorist who was in the wrong place at the wrong time was killed, Thursday afternoon, when his car was t-boned by another driver who was fleeing Detroit police.

Officers at the scene told WWJ Newsradio 950 that a suspect being chased by police crashed into another vehicle on Greenfield Road, just south of Plymouth Road, on Detroit's west side.

Police said the driver of the car that was hit — a 31-year-old Detroit man — died at the scene. The suspect and a woman who was a passenger in his vehicle were injured. They were taken to a local hospital.

Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody said the suspect had fled after he was pulled over for running a stop sign. He was wearing a tether, according to Woody, although the details of his criminal history were not immediately known.

Woody said the crash, including whether Detroit police officers involved in the chase followed proper protocol, is under investigation.

Greenfield was shut down at the scene but has since reopened.

No names have been released.
