Green Energy Advocate To Head State Utility Regulator

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has appointed a northern Michigan man to the agency that regulates utilities.

Dan Scripps is joining the three-member Michigan Public Service Commission unless the Senate objects. He follows Rachael Eubanks, who resigned to become state treasurer.

Scripps, a Northport resident, is the Midwest policy program director at the Energy Foundation, which promotes renewable energy. Scripps also is a former Democratic member of the Michigan House.

The Public Service Commission, among other duties, sets rates for natural gas and electricity supplied by Consumers Energy, DTE Energy and other providers. The governor says Scripps is the "right guy" to "find innovative ways to keep the lights on and the heat flowing."
