I-75 at I-94 in Wayne County reopens after crash involving gravel hauler
A portion of Interstate 75 at Interstate 94 in Wayne County has reopened hours after it was closed due to a crash involving a gravel hauler, according to Michigan State Police.
Police say that at about 3:45 p.m., the Detroit Regional Communication Center received a call about a gravel hauler that had rolled over. MSP troopers at the scene located two trailers blocking all lanes on the northbound freeway and a vehicle trapped between them.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 32-year-old driver from Sebewaing, Michigan, couldn't stop and rear-ended a car, causing the semi to roll over and hit a bridge abutment. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to a hospital for a bump on his head, according to MSP.
The Michigan Department of Transportation was called to inspect the bridge.
"One of the leading causes of crashes in the Metro Detroit area is following too closely," said MSP 1st Lieutenant Mike Shaw. "Distance is even more important when driving a heavier commercial truck. We want to remind all drivers to leave enough room between their vehicle and the one in front of them."
