Grandfather, 2 Kids Hospitalized After House Fire

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a Detroit man and two of his grandchildren are hospitalized after an early morning fire at their home on the city's east side.

The fire broke out just after 2 a.m. Tuesday on Glenfield Street, in a neighborhood along Chalmers and Houston Whittier Street.

Authorities say the family was sleeping downstairs when the fire broke out in an upstairs bedroom. The 56-year-old man and his 1- and 3-year-old grandkids all suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to St. John Hospital in stable condition.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Arson investigators are expected on scene later Tuesday, although authorities say the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

An investigation is ongoing.
