Goodbye Gaggle! Communities Sending Unwanted Geese Around State

SAGINAW, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Communities in southeastern Michigan are shipping unwanted Canada geese around the state, with more than 450 offloaded in state game areas in Saginaw and Midland counties this month.

More than 250 of the waterfowl were trucked to Kawkawlin Creek Flooding State Wildlife Management Area on Sunday, according to Mlive.com, and more than 200 were offloaded at Crow Island State Game Area on June 9.

Barry Sova, a Michigan Department of Natural Resources wildlife technician in charge of Quanicassee and Crow Island state game areas, says the birds for the most part will stay in the general area. He says the program has been taking place for years.

The geese can cause problems in more populated areas, getting aggressive with people and leaving droppings on sidewalks and on grass.
