Golf Great Jack Nicklaus Tees Off For Cornerstone Schools

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus is in town to play at the Country Club of Detroit in a fundraiser to benefit Cornerstone Schools.

The legendary golfer will play at the Country Club of Detroit  for the one-day pro-am Turning Point Tournament to support Cornerstone's plans for more educational opportunities in Detroit.

Pro golfer, Ryan Lenahan, tells WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas that he used to be a caddy back in the day, in Royal Oak -- but swinging the clubs beats carrying them.

"To be honest with you I kind of got bored with caddying," said Lenahan. "I just wanted to be a player -- and when you caddy - it made you want to go play -- so I think I'll just stick to playing and not caddying for the future."

Cornerstone Schools hope to bring in $3 million from the tournament headlined by the golf great. The goal is $50 million, aimed at increasing the number of students to 5,000 at the not-for-profit schools.

Cornerstone says golfers Mark O'Meara, Tom Lehman and Jerry Pate have agreed to participate [Tournament Info Here].

Tickets to the tournament are $30 each -- Lenahan is the youngest pro in the group-- he also holds the course record at Country Club of Detroit.
