GM Recalls 300K Trucks Due To Software Glitch

DETROIT (WWJ) - A software glitch is causing a headache for GM - and some truck owners as well - as the problem has led to the recall of over 300,000 pickups.

The tech troubles affect brand new 2014 Sierras and Silverados and could cause exhaust components to overheat and start a fire.

There has been eight fires so far, but fortunately no injuries.

The problem is usually signaled by the check engine light staying on.

The fix is only expected to take 20 minutes to repair.

Customers are advised not to leave their trucks idling unattended.

It is expected that GM will distribute letters to customers on Jan. 16, but Silverado and Sierra owners can schedule repair appointments early next week.
