Glover Quin thinks he knows the reason behind Jordy Nelson's season-ending knee injury this weekend: It was God's plan. Quin's full comments, after being asked what he would do about potentially reducing the NFL's preseason in light of Nelson's injury, are below:

Keep it how it is; coaches can manage it. You've got guys who aren't playing guys in the preseason; you've got guys who are playing them a little bit. I think injuries are going to happen. I hated Jordy got hurt, but in my beliefs and the way I believe, it was – God had meant for Jordy to get hurt. So if he wouldn't have got hurt today, if he wouldn't have played in that game, if he wouldn't have practiced anymore and the next time he walked on the field would have been opening day, I feel like he would have got hurt opening day. So in that sense, now they've got three weeks to make adjustments and prepare before opening day as opposed to it happening opening day and now you're in the season and now Jordy gets hurt. It happening in the preseason, you hate that it happened, but that gives them time to make adjustments and try to find something.

Quin has since suffered a boatload of negative backlash over the comments. Packers quarterback (and Nelson's teammate) Aaron Rodgers retweeted the following tweet from Brian Baumgartner (who played Kevin on the popular TV show "The Office").

Plenty of sports fans on social media and in comment sections have expressed their disbelief that a player would say God had planned out this injury for Nelson.

What may or may not be "God's will" has been a popular debate in sports. Often, players will credit God after a win, or say it wasn't in "God's plan" after a loss. Critics say that their God isn't concerned about sports, but rather about things like war and famine.

Quin's comments have certainly stirred up that debate once again.
