Glitch In City Of Detroit Computer System Leaves Army Vet Unpaid For Months

DETROIT (WWJ) - A day ahead of Veterans Day and the city of Detroit is working to make good on what is owed to one local veteran.

Army veteran Lanita Griffin has been working with the city on and off since 1999 and just recently as a Lifeguard and aerobics instructor through the Recreation Department as part of a "Hire a Vet" program reports Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis.

City officials admit because of a computer glitch in payroll she's been waiting for a payroll check, officials says since September, she says seems longer than and it's frustrating.

"Very stressful, I have three young boys that I am raising - I still work and I'm still accountable for my job that I haven't been paid for," said Griffin.

"They talked to you in such a demeanor as if you're are begging for money ... I shouldn't even have to look for it. It's very hard."

A city spokesperson says Griffin has turned down an advanced check in the interim. And that she should receive her back pay within the next pay cycle--no later than early December.
