Get Your Income Taxes Done For FREE Saturday Across Metro Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Local low-income individuals and families across metro Detroit can get their taxes prepared for free this weekend.

The Accounting Aid Society and Michigan Association of Certified Public Accounts brought $203,000 back in refunds last year -- and they've returned this year to get even more money back for residents. John Douglas of the MICPA explains who is eligible:

"Individuals with income less than $35,000 and families with income less than $53,000 can get their taxes prepared at any one of 10 centers in Detroit and actually through the four counties -- in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Livingston counties -- there's actually 21 sites at which to get taxes prepared," said John Douglas, of the MICPA.

CPAs will volunteer their expertise Saturday, Feb. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Focus: HOPE, located at 1300 Oakman in Detroit. Several other locations are participating as well. See the full list by clicking here.

The Accounting Aid Society also offers a homebound program for senior citizens and those who are physically unable to visit one of their tax preparation sites. Call 866-673-0873 for details.
