Get 'Unplugged' This Weekend With Your Mate

DETROIT (WWJ)- Check your cell phone at the door and "unplug" this weekend.

It's called the "National Day of Unplugging" and from Motown to Tel Aviv, people are making the commitment to life without technology for 24 hours in exchange for actual human interaction.

The campaign is the brain child of the non-profit group "Reboot", which first started asking people to ditch the cell phones, computers and IPods five years ago.

Reboot Associate Director Amelia Klein tells WWJ Newsradio 950 that while the concept of unplugging is a simple one, following through is difficult.

Reboot has a DIY guide to help people plan their unplugged time that can be found here.

The National Day of Unplugging runs from sundown to sundown beginning Friday, but Klein says those part of the plugged-in society are encouraged to digitally detox as often as possible.
