GE Reveals New Moonboots On Snapchat

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - General Electric took to cyberspace Wednesday to unveil a new generation of moon boots.

On the 45th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 11, the mission which took three NASA astronauts to the moon, GE posted took to the photo sharing service Snapchat to announce the moon boot sneakers.

The original silicone rubber moon boots were designed by GE and designed to handle the unforgiving space environment. In recognition of the anniversary, GE joined with with the shoe maker Android Homme and the men's fashion site JackThreads an Earth-ready version of the boots.

According to the post, the boots are "heat-resistant, hydrophobic,super durable and limited edition." GE stated the sneaker has parts made from "lightweight carbon fiber used for jet engine components and sports a hydrophobic coating similar to materials that prevent ice from forming on wind turbine blades."

The boots, which are called "The Mission," will be available at 4:18 pm, July 20, the time the Apollo 11 lunar module arrived on the moon. Only 100 pairs will be sold for $196.90.
