Gas Stations Switch Pumps To Summer Mix In Southeastern Michigan

LANSING (AP) - Ozone monitoring is back in place in southeastern Michigan as gasoline sales are changing to a special blend used during the summer.

The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says monitoring began Monday in Lenawee, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties. The extra measures are meant to lessen smog in the area.

Department official Craig VanBuren said in a news release that the summer gasoline mix increases fuel efficiency and prevents smog compounds from going into the air.

The summer gas season ends Sept. 15.
