Gas Station Rewards Card Helps Identify Skeletal Remains

GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP/WWJ) - A gas station customer rewards card helped authorities identify a man's skeletal remains found in a wooded area near a popular trail in western Michigan.

WOOD-TV and WZZM-TV report that a Speedway card was found at the scene in Gaines Township, south of Grand Rapids.

The Kent County sheriff's department says a tip on the remains came in Sunday afternoon, just north of M-6 and west of Eastern Avenue SE, near the Fred Meijer M-6 trail.

Authorities said that while there were no signs of trauma, they're not ruling out anything — including foul play. An autopsy was inconclusive and toxicology test will be done to help determine how the man died.

His name was not immediately released.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the Kent County Sheriff's Department at 616-632-6100.
