Gas Prices Take Sudden Jump Over Past Week

DETROIT (WWJ) - A big jump in gas prices in Michigan over the past week. AAA Michigan's weekly fuel gauge survey shows prices rose by 20 cents to a statewide average of 2.48 per gallon.

Metro Detroit prices average 2.46 a gallon, but there are some prices as low as 2.27. The cheapest prices are in the Marquette area where drivers are paying about 2.45 a gallon.

The highest prices are in the Traverse City region where gas is averaging around 2.56 a gallon.

Despite the 20-cent increase, gas prices are still more than a dollar cheaper than a year ago.
