Funeral Held In Michigan For Green Beret Killed In Combat

BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Hundreds of people have attended a funeral in Michigan for a 31-year-old Green Beret who was killed in combat in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon says that Sgt. 1st Class Michael A. Cathcart died of wounds received from small arms fire in Kunduz Province on Nov. 14. Cathcart was based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The funeral took place Wednesday at All Saints Parish's St. Boniface Campus in Bay City. Many people also lined the streets outside to the cemetery.

Gov. Rick Snyder has ordered U.S. flags in Michigan lowered Wednesday in Cathcart's honor. Cathcart was a Bay City Central High School graduate and enlisted in the Army in 2001. He served in combat in Iraq as well as Afghanistan.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee describes Cathcart as "a peacemaker."
