Funeral Arrangements Set For Former Detroit Lions Player Mel Farr

DETROIT (AP) — A public viewing is planned for Mel Farr, a former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year who rushed for more than 3,000 yards in seven pro seasons with the Detroit Lions.

Farr died Monday at the age of 70.

Swanson Funeral Home says a public viewing is 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Detroit. A funeral is noon Thursday at Christian Tabernacle Church in Southfield followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.

The running back finished his pro career with 3,072 yards on 739 carries and would go on to a second career selling cars in the Detroit area.

At one point, Farr owned about a dozen dealerships in several states and appeared in TV commercials as the cape-wearing Mel Farr Superstar.
