Fugitive Captured During 'Jaywalking Patrol' On 8 Mile

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - A wanted fugitive is now off the streets, after he was arrested during a jaywalking patrol in Royal Oak.

Michigan State Police say the arrest happened around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday as troopers were patrolling 8 Mile Road to reduce the number of pedestrian and vehicle crashes due to pedestrians failing to use marked cross walks.

Troopers approached a pedestrian who was observed jaywalking northbound from the center median to the north side of 8 Mile Road, according to police, and realized the 49-year-old Royal Oak Township man had one misdemeanor and one felony assault warrant out of the 36th District Court.

The man, whose name was not released, was issued a verbal warning for jaywalking and turned over to Detroit Police without incident.
