Frost & Freeze Alert: Temperatures To Plummet This Weekend In Metro Detroit

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Is Michigan fast-forwarding through fall, and going straight on to winter?

Not technically...but WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says that's what it will feel like in the coming days.

Leaving recent sunny 70s behind, temperatures have dropped quickly in metro Detroit and across the state. Looking ahead to the weekend, he said, highs will only be in the low 50s — with nighttime temps dropping as low as low as 30 degrees.

"Friday night I think we'll have some frost issues in some of the outlying suburbs," DeVore said, adding that a chilly rain shower is also likely. "And Saturday night into Sunday morning — frost and freeze problems throughout metro Detroit."

"And I do think there's going to be some widespread areas of freeze, especially in the northern and western suburbs of metro Detroit, Saturday into Sunday, as temperatures drop just to or just below freezing at night.

This will mean a chilly start to weekend events, including Michigan v. Michigan State football game Saturday and the Detroit Free Press Marathon Saturday and Sunday.

Before all that, DeVore said we'll struggle to try to reach a high of 60 degrees with "clouds galore" on Wednesday. Thursday, metro Detroiters will enjoy one more good warm day with temperatures in the upper 60s, until the big cold front comes through.

Here's the detailed forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:
