Frigid Valentine's Weekend Forecast: Perfect Weather For Cuddling

DETROIT (WWJ) - Metro Detroit is bracing for the coldest weather of the year, giving lovebirds a perfect excuse to snuggle up with their sweetie over the long Valentine's weekend.

Forecasters say we'll start off Friday with a heaping of snow as a blustery weather system moves into southeastern Michigan, keeping temperatures around 20 degrees.

"I think there will be some very heavy snow showers when that arctic front comes through. For us here in metro Detroit, I think it's between noon and 5 p.m. Friday, but we'll have to keep an eye on it. I think some snow showers could break out before the main front itself," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore.

Once the snow arrives, low temperatures will plunge into the single digits overnight and stay there for most of the weekend. The high temperature on Saturday is only 11 degrees -- that's what the thermometer might read but with the wind chill factored in, it's going to feel below zero degrees out there. We could also see some flurries throughout the day.

Temperatures will be slightly warmer on Sunday, Valentine's Day -- probably from all that burning love -- with a high around 17 degrees. We might even seen some sun but don't be fooled, that wind chill isn't going anywhere.

Things will continue to heat up overnight and into Monday, which has a high of 35 degrees.

Here's the local forecast from the CBS Detroit weather team:

Friday -- Cloudy skies with afternoon snow showers. High 25F. Snow accumulations around one inch.

Friday Night -- Cloudy skies with a few snow showers after midnight. Low 10F.

Saturday -- Cloudy. A few flurries or snow showers possible. High near 11F.

Saturday Night -- Cloudy. Flurries possible. Low 4F.

Sunday -- A mix of clouds and sun early, then becoming cloudy later in the day. High 17F.

Sunday Night -- Cloudy. Snow showers. Low 0F. Snow accumulations less than one inch.

Monday -- Overcast. Snow showers. High 33F.

Monday Night -- Partly cloudy. Low 13F.
