Freezing Rain Moves Into Metro Detroit, Bringing Slick Roads

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Freezing rain is forecasted for Saturday morning and local road crews are making arrangements to fight potentially dangerous icy roads.

For those planning to hit the road, Cindy Dingell with the Wayne County Department of Public Services Roads Division says the department is looking out for drivers.

"Please, please watch you speeds tomorrow morning, especially early -- you may not be able to see that black ice," Dingell said.

At least 14 salt trucks will be out at 4 a.m. Saturday to battle the forecasted freezing rain.

"The trucks are fueled up, they're all loaded up with salt in anticipation for tomorrow," Dingell said. "If it does come earlier, we will call staff in earlier than that and, obviously, if we need additional resources we will call them in."

Crews were given the opportunity to leave early Friday. To report icy conditions which may not have been treated, Dingell said to call 1-888-ROAD-CREW.
