Free Program To Train Job Seekers For Manufacturing Careers

DETROIT (AP) — Details of a program designed to provide training for Detroit-area residents interested in manufacturing careers will be announced at Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit.

Young people and adults interested in "Pathways To Jobs In Detroit" can sign up during a rally Tuesday afternoon.

Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow, Goodwill Industries, Focus: HOPE and TechShop Detroit are collaborating on the free program.

Organizers say that nearly 119,000 jobs were posted last year in Michigan for advanced manufacturing workers, including skilled trade workers and engineers.

LIFT Executive Director Larry Brown has said "too few individuals are prepared for careers in manufacturing due to lack of awareness and technical skills."

Manufacturing and robotics demonstrations will be held during the rally Tuesday.
