Foundation Is 'Here To Help' Metro Detroiters In Need Of Transportation

DETROIT (WWJ) - A local organization is helping Metro Detroiters in need of transportation.

As part of their "Working Cars for Working People," the Here to Help Foundation buys vehicles from Volunteers of America -- and then assists people who are working 35 hours or more per week and don't have transportation to get to their jobs.

"Sometimes they have a car when they started the job and maybe it broke and is no longer repairable, or sometimes they are struggling with the bus system and it's taking hours to get to work. But the foundation can provide $2,500 maximum for these people," Co-founder Robin Schwartz told WWJ's Zahra Huber.

Schwartz said they've provided more than 700 cars worth nearly $2 million to people living in Wayne and Oakland counties.

The Here to Help Foundation also works with survivors of domestic violence, the homeless, and others who need immediate assistance.
