PLYMOUTH (WWJ) - A Plymouth woman accused of engaging in sexual acts with a teenage boy and sending him nude photos is scheduled to appear in court this week.

Prosecutors have charged 41-year old Bridget Caplin — a former Plymouth-Canton Community schools employee — with criminal sexual conduct third degree (person 13 though 15), distributing obscene matter to a child and using a computer to commit a crime in connection with alleged incidents earlier this year.

In an interview with MLive, Plymouth Police Chief Al Cox said the investigation began back in May when authorities received an anonymous tip that Caplin was engaging in "oral sex with minors and buying them alcohol."

Cox said an "extensive investigation" included subpoenas for cell phone and online data, leading to Caplin's arrest on Oct. 14. So far, only one victim has been identified.

Caplin worked at East Middle School, but the public school district said in a statement that she is no longer employed there and has not returned to any school buildings since the allegations came to light.

"The district always places the health, safety, and welfare of its students as its number one priority, and will continue to do so as the prosecutor's office completes its investigation," the statement said.

Caplin was arraigned last week and remains held on a $250,000 cash/surety bond.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 28, followed by a preliminary exam set for Friday, Nov. 4, both is 35th District Court.
