Former Hokies RB Kevin Jones Joins AD's Staff

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Former running back Kevin Jones is joining Virginia Tech's athletic administration as a special assistant to athletic director Whit Babcock.

Babcock made the announcement Tuesday. He says Jones will represent the department at on-campus and off-campus meetings, serve as a mentor for the Hokies' student-athletes and work to develop relationships with former student-athletes, particularly those in the professional ranks.

Jones was an All-American as a junior in 2003 after rushing for a then-school record 1,647 yards. His career total of 3,475 rushing yards still ranks second in Hokies history. He left after his junior year and played five NFL seasons in Detroit and Chicago before his career was cut short by injuries.

Jones returned to Virginia Tech in 2011 and graduated with a degree in industrial design in May.
