Ford Romeo Engine Plant Evacuated Over Bomb Threat, Workers Sent Home

ROMEO (WWJ) - The Ford Engine Plant in Romeo has been evacuated over a bomb threat and workers have been sent home for the day.

The situation unfolded around 7:20 a.m. Thursday at the plant, located off of 32 Mile Road and Van Dyke Freeway.

Ford officials confirm the evacuation was ordered after a bomb threat was placed at the plant.

"We are working with local law enforcement to address the situation and at this point, we have sent home the day shift," said Marisa Bradley, Ford Communications Manager. "However, we are asking our afternoon shift of the Romeo Engine employees to report."

Police on the scene tell WWJ's Charlie Langton that multiple bomb-sniffing dogs have been sent into the building to search for explosives.

No injuries have been reported.

About 1,074 employees work at the plant, which produces engines for the F-150 and Mustang, among other vehicles.

Officials with Michigan State Police, Romeo police and the Macomb County Sheriff's Office are all on the scene.
