DETROIT (WWJ) For the fourth time in a month, a metro Detroit resident opened fire on a would-be intruder, this time killing the suspect.

A Detroit man shot at two alleged intruders at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, killing one of them at his house in the 8200 block of Penrod Street, police confirmed.

It happened near Tireman and Southfield on the city's west side.

Police said they're still looking for the second suspect.

The homeowner was not injured.

Last Friday, a woman shot and killed a man who was allegedly trying to break into her home in the 22700 block of Grove in Detroit. In that incident, the resident reportedly heard someone break a window and warned them she was armed. When he didn't stop, she shot and killed him, police said.

A few days before that, a mother with two small children in the house opened fire on three teens after they busted down the back door to get into her house. Two of the teens fled when she started firing a rifle; the third grabbed his own gun and ran back into the house.

She kept firing until he ran away, too.

It was captured on surveillance video that she had installed after a prior break-in. Police arrested all three suspects, and got their gun, the same night.

That followed on the heels of an incident Feb. 4 in Bloomfield Township, where a man shot one of two men who allegedly broke into his home and demanded money. The resident lured the man into his bedroom, to get cash, he said. Inside, he grabbed his gun and opened fire, striking one while the other fled.

On the other end of the crime spectrum, a Taylor man was shot in the head Feb. 11 when he reportedly surprised a burglar in his house. The victim remains in critical condition. Two suspects were later arrested.
