Focus: HOPE Hosting Apprenticeship Fair In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) — Focus: HOPE is hosting an apprenticeship fair in Detroit for training starting this fall.

The event takes place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the organization's Center for Advanced Technologies building.

Organizers say targeted training areas for the fair are computer numeric controlled machinists, network support technicians and controls technicians. An aim is to attract minorities, women and unemployed or underemployed people to the careers.

The training effort is part of a $3 million, 5-year American Apprenticeship Initiative grant to Focus: HOPE from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Focus: HOPE has committed to train as many as 300 people as part of the initiative. Training for other apprenticeship areas is planned later.
